A year of renewal: work continues in our vineyards

Il botolo azienda agricola Un 2021 di rinascita: i lavori continuano nei nostri vigneti

Wine is born from the land and from daily work that follows nature’s rhythm. At Il Botolo, we believe that living the vineyard is essential to producing quality wines.

Since the beginning of this year, we have in fact conducted some rigorous work in the vineyards that we wish to share with you so that you may discover the secret behind the bottles we produce. In the winter months of January and February, when the vines have lost all of their leaves, we started pruning, which is important in guaranteeing the quality of the new fruits. We shaped the plants so that they could grow properly and bear the load of the grapes. This is called “short” pruning, which gives a better balance between leaves and bunches, with a maximum of 8 buds on Barbera and 9/10 buds on Moscato.

In April we eliminated weeds by hoeing in the sub-rows, with practices fully respecting the environment.

This year’s work included winter pruning, soil management, and the planting of new Pinot vines for our Metodo Classico.

Despite the severe frost of 8 April, we recently witnessed the magical moment of budbreak — a symbol of rebirth for nature and for all of us.
